Drop Spindle Christmas Tree Ornaments

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO MY SPINNING CUSTOMERS! It's never too early to get in the holiday spirit, right?

Dave made this pair of 6 inch drop spindle ornaments with fired ceramic bottom whorls. While they are intended as ornaments for your Christmas tree they actually are fairly well balanced little spindles and surprised me as to how well they spin. Each weighs about 0.5 OZ. Please click here if you would like to see more photos of these unique ornaments.

Don't forget you can click on the photo above to see a zoom view!

Ancient Ivory Earthenware Pendant

This is a new item for our Good Dirt Jewelry Etsy shop!

This handmade 1 1/4" earthenware pendant is adorned by a beautiful turned cabochon of fossil ivory. The white earthenware clay has been glazed with a dark Malachite green glaze.

A Little Cross Promotion!

We've been doing a little reorganization lately! Our earthenware pendants can now be found in our Good Dirt Jewelry Etsy shop.

Our newest addition to our earthenware line, is our Old Irish Blessing Stone Pendants. These pendants were made to look like the Buckquoy spindle whorl, which was excavated in Buckquoy, Birsay, Orkney, Scotland in 1970. The old Irish Ogham inscription is believed to date back to the 8th century.

If you'd like to see what's coming out of the kiln, please visit our Good Dirt Jewelry Blog!

Sisters Western and Native American Festival

It's that time of year again! We always look forward to the end of August, not just because it signals the end of summer here in Central Oregon, but because it also means it's time to go to Sisters, Oregon for the Western and Native American Festival! This show will be held in Creekside Park, which is a beautiful venue for this show. The dates for this show are August 30-31, 2008 and admission is free.

We will have a new selection of baskets and earthenware jewelry, so be sure and stop by our booth if you are in the area!

Celtic Tranquility Earthenware Ogham

There are about as many variations of interpretations of the Celtic Ogham symbols as there are interpreters. We hope you enjoy ours!

This "Tranquility" Ogham features a Tibetan Yak bone bead that has been inlayed with coral and turquoise. The earthenware pendant measures about 2" in length.

The Celtic Ogham alphabet dates from the fourth century. The alphabet is named for Ogmos, the Celtic god of knowledge and communication. The alphabet consists of twenty letters, each named for a different tree believed sacred to the Druids.

You can view this and other earthenware Celtic Ogham pendants in our Etsy shop.

Sneak Preview!

It's almost time for our "Pathways to Transformation" show in Yachats and we've got a sneak peek of what you'll see from us at this show. We'll have our usual array of baskets, which I'll try and photo soon, and a new line of organically inspired earthenware pendants. We will also have a large collection of Celtic Ogham earthenware pendants!

Tools of My Trade

Everyone knows that Dave works with a variety of tools: lathes, drills, sanders and an assortment of other carving tools, but I don't often mention the tools of my trade.

I'm currently working on a new line of earthenware pendants that features an organic theme and pictured here are a few of my current "tools" as well as some newly formed pieces waiting for their turn in the kiln.

All of MY tools were cut fresh today from our yard :)

Adorn Your Frig!

I don't know what your frig looks like, but mine is covered with family photos and works of art done by my niece. I've always loved refrigerator magnets even before I had "objets d art" to display.

Earthenware Frig magnets are a new item for our Etsy shop, so if you love to adorn your refrigerator, go check ours out!

Bisque Hitty Doll Head for Soft Body Doll or Pin Cushion

This earthenware clay Hitty doll head has been sitting on Dave's work table looking at him (and me!) for too long now and it’s time she found another home!

We like to play around with our little kiln so Dave made this glaze fired Hitty head with the best intention of making a Hitty pin cushion or soft body doll, but it seems we never have the time. I think that someone else with more talent and time could make good use of her. The head size is scaled for a 6 1/4 inch doll.

Hitty's head is currently up for auction on Ebay. Please help her find a body! :)

Handmade Earthenware Pin Cushions

We hand make these little 1 ½ inch diameter pin wheel cushions out of white earthenware clay with a felt disc sandwiched between. This one, which is currently up for auction on Ebay, has been relief carved, on one side, and glaze fired with brilliant cobalt blue.

We also have another ceramic pin cushion for sale in our Grizzly Mountain Arts Etsy.com shop. This one has a Celtic fish motif carved on one side and has been glazed to give it an old, distressed look.

The Overflowing Cup

Jo created "The Overflowing Cup" from earthenware clay. It measures about 1 3/4" in length and 1" in width. It has been accented with a brass bead. The cord is a wonderful faux suede material that doesn't "shed" on your clothes like real suede does and is very easy to tie so your pendant can compliment any neckline. If faux suede is not your favorite material and you prefer to wear your pendant on a chain, you can easily remove it.

This earthenware pendant is one of six new pendants added today to our Grizzly Mountain Arts Etsy.com shop.

New Earthenware Pendants

Jo finally got around to listing some more of her Earthenware Pendants in the Grizzly Mountain Arts Etsy shop.

These new pendants are Celtic, Mayan and nature inspired, and are accented with a variety of Tibetan yak bone, African "vaseline glass" and Tibetan inlayed Bodhi seed beads.

As always, these were made with love on Grizzly Mountain!

Celtic Ogham Jewelry

We've just added some new Celtic Ogham Pendants to our Grizzly Mountain Arts Etsy shop! Fossil ivory and earthenware clay have been used to create our Ogham pendants as has Tibetan Bodhi seeds, inlayed Tibetan Yak bone and African Krobo beads.

Ogham, is an Early Medieval alphabet used primarily to represent the "Old Irish" language. Ogham is sometimes referred to as the "Celtic Tree Alphabet".
