Apricot and Walnut Top Whorl Drop Spindle with Pyrography



Dave has burn-etched his signature leaf motif around this 1 7/8 inch diameter apricot whorl. He has crafted the 8 1/2 inch shaft from walnut, and has added a brass hook to the top. The weight of this beautiful handspinning tool is 0.8 ounces.

The Three Sisters Lightweight Walnut and Birch Drop Spindles with Pyrography




The "Three Sisters" are a group of mountains in the Cascade Range that we see every day here in Central Oregon. Dave has crafted his latest trio of lightweight drop spindles, so named for these beautiful mountains, from dark, elegant walnut. Each whorl has been notched and adorned with Dave's signature pyrographic leaf design. The end of each birch shaft has been shaped to accommodate a half hitch and a brass hook has been added to the top.


The sizes of these spindles are:


*Length: 10 inch spindle 
Diameter: 2 3/8 inch whorl
Weight: 1.0 ounces

Diameter: 2 inch whorl
Weight: 0.75 ounces

Ceramic and Myrtlewood Lap Support Spinning Bowl with Pyrography



Dave has crafted this beautiful lap support spinning bowl from myrtlewood and has adorned it with his signature pyrographed leaf motif. The ceramic bowl measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter, and the myrtlewood base is approximately 2 1/2 inches in diameter and 6 1/2 inches in length. "Eternal Galaxy" is the glaze that was used on the earthenware clay inner bowl. Cork dots on the bottom keep the wood from scratching your chair.

Dave has crafted this beautiful 10 1/2 inch nostepinde, or yarn ball winder, from maple. He has adorned it with his signature pyrographic leaf motif. The ends have been accented with brass nails.

Walnut and Tiger Maple Top Whorl Drop Spindle with Pyrography


Walnut and tiger maple are the woods chosen by Dave for this beautiful drop spindle. He has used pyrography (burn etching) to adorn the notched 2 1/2 inch walnut whorl with his signature leaf motif. The overall length of the tiger maple shaft, including the brass hook, is 10 inches and the weight is 1.1 ounce.

Dave's signature leaf motif has been burn etched around the edges of the notched hard maple whorl of this beautiful drop spindle. The top of the whorl has been adorned with his rose and leaf motif. Padauk Russian Spindle and Support Bowl Set


This is one of Dave's most beautiful spindle and bowls sets to date! He has inlayed the padauk wood of the 11 1/2 inch long Russian style supported spindle with turquoise. The weight of this spindle is 33 grams. The matching padauk support bowl features a matching turquoise glazed ceramic insert and Dave's signature leaf motif has been burn-etched around the outer rim. Dave has crafted this elegant notched top whorl drop spindle from birdseye maple and cocobolo woods. The 3 inch notched birdseye maple whorl features a beautiful pyrographed oak leaf motif. The overall length of the cocobolo shaft is 10 inches. This 1.8 ounce drop spindle also features a brass hook.

This 10 1/2 inch top whorl drop spindle weights 1.1 ounce. The notched whorl was crafted from beautiful Hawaiian koa and measures 2 7/8 inches in diameter. The top of the whorl has been adorned with Dave's signature leaf motif. The equally stunning shaft was turned from tiger maple. A brass hook has been added to the top.

New Spindles and Bowl

This group of handspinning tools was recently completed for one of our wonderful patrons. The unique spindle at the bottom of the photo features pyrographed shamrocks on it's birch shaft. The walnut whorl has Dave's detailed leaf motif, and this particular spindle can be used as either a top or bottom whorl drop spindle. The walnut spindle in the middle has a delightful shamrock motif that has been created using turquoise and pipestone inlay. Last, but certainly not least, is the gorgeous supported Tibetan spindle which was crafted from koa and birdseye maple, and it's matching birdseye maple bowl. The support spinning bowl has an earthy green earthenware ceramic insert.

Top or Bottom Whorl Walnut and Birch Drop Spindle with Pyrography


This versatile drop spindle has been notched and slotted on both ends, and can be used as both a top whorl or a bottom whorl spindle. The 2 inch walnut whorl has been adorned with Dave's pyrographed leaf motif, and he has carried the leaf motif to the 10 inch birch shaft. The weight of this spindle is 0.9 ounces.

Ceramic and Fiddleback Maple Support Spinning Bowl with Pyrography


We have created a support spinning bowl that has combined the efficiency of a ceramic surface with the stability of a wide beautiful wooden base. Our ceramic bowl measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter, and the fiddleback maple base is 2 3/4 inches in diameter. A felt backing keeps the wood from scratching other hard surfaces. The fiddleback maple wood base has also been adorned with a lovely leaf motif. The glaze used on this bowl is called "Monet's Garden".

The notched rim of this gorgeous 2 1/4 inch hard maple whorl has been adorned with a beautiful leaf motif, and the top of the whorl features a rose and leaf motif. The shaft was crafted from hormigo negro. This elegant spindle weights 1.3 ounces, and the overall length is 9 1/2 inches.

"The Victorian" is our new signature spindle. Beautifully carved checkering and a lovely Victorian leaf motif adorns the whorl of this Oregon Myrtlewood top whorl drop spindle. This drop spindle measures 9 1/2 inches in length, and has a 2 3/8 inch diameter whorl. The weight of this spindle is 0.8 ounces. A brass hook has been inserted into the top.

Oregon Myrtlewood with Pyrography Top Whorl Silk Drop Spindle


This top whorl silk drop spindle is approximately 8 inches in length, and weighs 1.2 ounces. This spindle is made from Oregon Myrtlewood. A brass hook has been inset in the top. Native American Design Low Whorl Drop Spindle


Dave is adding a new design to his spindle line and this one is a real beauty! If you've taken a look at some of our past work, you've seen that pine needle basket making is another of Dave's passions.

On this
new spindle, he's created a 1 7/8 inch diameter Poplar low whorl that looks like a pine needle basket. Using pyrography, he has adorned it with a Native American pattern.
