Handi-Wind© Accessory Tatting Shuttle without Handle

Dave is offering this 2 1/2 inch pau amarillo Handi-Wind accessory shuttle without a handle specifically for those tatters who already own a Handi-Wind.  Any Handi-Wind handle will fit this accessory shuttle, therefore making it possible to add more shuttles without adding more handles.

If you are a shuttle collector, or might sell, swap, trade or gift shuttles, you might be wise to continue to buy only the Handi-Wind shuttles that come complete with a handle.

HANDLES FOR ACCESSORY SHUTTLES WILL NOT BE MADE OR OFFERED SEPARATELY.

Friday

Handi-Wind Two Tatting Shuttle Set

Dave has specially designed this "Handi-Wind" tatting shuttle with a screw-in finger hold that aides in loading the shuttle without slipping out of your hand. It is particularly useful for tatters with arthritis and those who just have "all thumbs". To help keep track of the handle, Dave has added an eye and jump ring so it can be worn around the neck with a cord or ribbon.  The cherry shuttle is 2 5/8 inches long, and the mahogany shuttle is 2 3/4 inches in length. The handle was crafted from a beautiful swirled acrylic.

We would like to thank Diane of the Lace-lovin Librarian Blog, for being an awesome beta tester of our first version of our new "Handi-Wind" shuttle.

Friday

Swiss Pear Flat Style Tatting Shuttle with Carved Rose Motif

Swiss Pear was the wood chosen by Dave to create this beautiful 3 1/4 inch long flat style tatting shuttle. He has carved his signature rose and leaf motif onto one side, and painted it with acrylic paint. Diamond glaze was used to seal the paint to protect it from wear. Beeswax was used to finish this shuttle.  You can find this little beauty for sale in our Etsy shop.

Monday

The Return of the Queen!

.....the "Little Queen Bee" tatting shuttle, that is!  It’s been a while since Dave has made any tatting shuttles. Since he can no longer do the intricate small work required for the more elaborate shuttles, he is going to concentrate on flat shuttles.

This “Little Queen Bee” flat shuttle has been a favorite of our tatting customers (it sold in our Etsy shop before I could get it posted here or on Facebook, but there will be more in the future). Made from upcycled blinds, it is super lightweight and very smooth to the touch with its beeswax finish.

Wednesday

5 1/4 Inch Myrtlewood Knotting Tatting Shuttle with Pyrography

Dave has used pyrography, or burn etching, to adorn both sides of this large myrtlewood knotting tatting shuttle.  This beautiful fiber art tool measures 5 1/4 inches in length, and 1 1/2 inches in width.  An additional photo can be found in the Etsy shop listing for this lace making tool.

Friday

Ebony Cameo Tatting Shuttle

Dave has handcrafted this 3 inch post tatting shuttle out of ebony wood.  He has also inset a tiny resin cameo in it. Sometime back, he stopped applying a high gloss shellac or lacquer finish to his shuttles and have opted for the hand rubbed satin bees wax finish. There are several reasons for this, one being that a gloss finish will disappear anyway after a little use.  Second, a waxed finish is easier to hold on to and is easier to maintain by the shuttle owner.  This beautiful tatting shuttle is currently up for auction on Ebay.

Thursday

Handcrafted Maple Burl Tatting Shuttle

Dave has crafted this unique style tatting shuttle out of Big Leaf Maple Burl. It is about 3 ¼ inches long. He did not want to detract from the beautiful burl, so he only added a delicate burn etched dragonfly to the shuttle. This elegant tatting shuttle has been initialed by Dave. Please visit the Ebay auction listing for this beautiful fiber art tool to view an additional photo.

Tuesday

Handcrafted Aqua Blue Acrylic Tatting Shuttle

Dave has hand crafted this beautiful 2 ½ inch tatting shuttle out of a piece of aqua blue acrylic. He has polished it to a high gloss. An additional photo can be found at the Ebay auction.

Wednesday

Handcrafted Tiger Maple Wood Tatting Shuttle

Please click the photo for a zoom view.

Dave crafted this 3 1/4 inch tatting shuttle from a piece of beautiful Tiger Maple. I think you can see why its called Tiger Maple. The patterns seem to change with the different angles of the light hitting it. Dave also went through my stash of vintage buttons and found one that looked like a little piece of tatting, so he carved a recess and inset it into this shuttle. If you'd like to view more photos of this stunning tatting shuttle, please visit the Ebay auction listing.

Sunday

Cocobolo Wood Tatting Shuttle

Dave has handcrafted this 3 inch flat style tatting shuttle from Cocobolo wood which has a beautiful flaming pattern in the wood. It has a satin hand rubbed bees wax finish. You can find this beautiful tatting shuttle up for auction at Ebay.com.

Thursday

Golden Dragonfly Lace Bobbin Tatting Shuttle

Dave crafted this 2 ¼ inch bobbin shuttle out of dyed Box Edler wood. He has also inlayed a 14k gold dragonfly on one side and a dot of Truestone turquoise in the butt. It has a #14 steel crochet hook inset into the nose. This bobbin shuttle uses a common Singer Class 66 plastic bobbin that you can pickup at Wal-Mart or other sewing stores in the 4 pack for around $1. It has a brass post screw axel that the bobbin runs on and you can adjust the drag tension on the bobbin. More photos of this beautiful tatting shuttle can be seen at the Ebay auction listing.

Picnik.com's New Flickr Slideshow

I've been using Picnik.com for some time now to edit photos for our Grizzly Mountain Arts items, and I've also used Flickr as an online portfolio of our work. Recently, Picnik.com has created a wonderful new utility that makes slideshows from your Flickr sets! It's all integrated--you click on Flickr from within Picnik, then select the set you would like to make a slideshow presentation from, then Picnik generates the html for you.

The slideshow above is from our Flickr "Tatting Shuttle" set. If you would like to view more of our Grizzly Mountain Arts Flickr portfolio, please click here.
