Primitive Bone Fish Lace Bobbins

Dave hand carved these 4 inch bone fish bobbins in the medieval style, commonly used over 500 years ago as bobbins, thread winders and gaming pieces. Each one is initialed and dated by Dave.

These bobbins are currently up for auction on Ebay.com. If you would like to view this auction, please click the link below.

Moby Dick Tatting Shuttle and Harpoon Picot Hook

It’s a whale of a shuttle ! Moby is carved from bone and is 3 ½ inches long. As an added treat, Dave has included a 5 inch bone picot hook that he carved in the shape of a whalers harpoon.

Unfortunately, Dave has a "copycat" on Ebay who is trying to duplicate his work, so a statement of copyright protection was added to this piece. Dave spent many hours planning and executing this Moby Dick shuttle and picot hook, so it would be a shame for this person to profit from Dave's hard work.

Unfinished Tatting Knotting Shuttle

Here's another new handmade fiber art tool for our "Grizzly Mountain Cache" Etsy shop!

Dave made these wood knotting shuttles and left them unfinished so you can decorate them yourself! These large 5"x 1 5/8" knotting shuttles were used in the Victorian era to make strands of knotted rope that would then be sewn onto embroidery pieces. They were such a status symbol that the ladies would carry them around as a fashion accessory!

New Items in our Etsy Shops!

We have just listed some new items in our Etsy.com shops!

In our "GrizzlyMountainArts" shop we have listed two more of the vintage inspired needle minders. One is a beautiful Victorian Lady cameo and the other is a vintage inspired red hisbiscus cameo. Both of these needle minders have a turned piece of East Indian Rosewood that contains the back magnet.

The new listing in our "GrizzlyMountainCache" primitive supply shop is more of the unique seabeans. We use these in our work, but only your imagination can limit their use!

Space Shuttle Shuttle!

One of Dave's tatting shuttle customers asked him to create a special tatting shuttle to commemorate her daughter's acceptance into the space shuttle program. It turned out so well, and was such an unusual request, that I thought I'd share it with you!

Dave created this one of a kind post tatting shuttle from spalted maple with ancient mammoth ivory inlay. He uses a microscope to do the detailed scrimshaw art.

Cedar Acorn Frig Magnet

This is the second sweet little acorn frig magnet that Dave has made today! He turned it out of a beautiful piece of cedar, then burn-etched the detail on the acorn's cap. This little acorn measures about two inches in length by an inch and a half wide.

We use rare earth magnets in all of our refrigerator magnets which will hold much more than the usual crafting magnet.

This cedar frig magnet is for sale for $7.50 in our Etsy shop. If you would like to view this item, please click the link below.

Sweet Little Acorn Frig Magnet

Dave just came in from his workshop with this sweet little acorn frig magnet. He turned it out of olive green poplar wood, then burn-etched the detail on the acorn's cap. This little acorn measures just a little over an inch in length by a little over a half inch wide. A strong rare earth magnet has been inlayed in the top.

This little magnet is for sale in our Etsy.com shop for $5.00! If you would like to view this item, please click the link below.

Celluloid "Glacier Ice" Bobbin Tatting Shuttle

After a short respite from winter, it's back for a while here in central Oregon, so it's only fitting that Dave's next shuttle be named "Glacier Ice". The stunning tatted ice skates were tatted by Margaret Brown. These adorable gems arrived in the mail today! Thank you, Margaret!!

Dave carved this approx 2 1/2 inch "GLACIER ICE" celluloid bobbin tatting shuttle to bring out the beautiful patterns within. No two can come out the same. Change the angle of the light and you get pearly ice with blue threads through the shuttle. The bobbin is a common Singer which can be bought in packs of 4 at WalMart or similar store with sewing supplies. The drag on the bobbin can be adjusted with the brass screw axle to keep it from free wheeling. It has a #14 steel picot hook inset in the nose. It is initialed and dated by Dave, the maker.

This tatting shuttle is currently up for auction on Ebay. If you would like to view this auction, please click the link below.

What else could be more fitting than a tatting shuttle made in Oregon on Grizzly Mountain out of famous Oregon Myrtlewood?

Fish or Ostrich?

I've been busy adding new items to our new Grizzly Mountain Cache Etsy shop.

Two of the newest additions are the fish vertebrae and the ostrich shell beads shown.

If you like organic/primitive supplies, be sure and check out our new supply shop.

Thanks, Grandpa Archibald!

GrizzlyMountainCache.etsy.com!!

We opened our second Etsy.com shop today! We'd been thinking about it for some time, and thought there was no better time than the present.

Most of the items in this shop will consist of an eclectic mix of Jo's handmade ceramic pendants, ancient ivory--fossil walrus and fossil mammoth shards, African Krobo beads and many other organic supplies. There's not a lot there now, but we'll be adding to it in the future.

And if you were wondering why I'm thanking good ole Grandpa Archibald, he's the "primitive" looking gentleman in our new avatar. Archibald, was the Chief of the Yowani Choctaw Band of East Texas Indians back in the 1800's.

Two New Additions

Our latest two vintage inspired cameo needle minders are, in my opinion, some of the prettiest! One is a whimsical fairy and flower, and the other a Victorian lady with a vine motif. Both have a turned piece of ebony as it's minder.

These needle minders are currently for sale in our Etsy.com shop for $10. If you would like to view these items, please click the link below.
