Fine Silver Inlay Tatting Shuttle

The classic warm feeling of exoctic wood with the elegance of fine silver. This is a petite shuttle, only 2 1/4 inches long. Dave carved it from Goncalo Alves wood and inlaid it with a fine silver filigree disc, which was made by Jo. Jo uses Silver Precious Metal Clay which she shapes and fires in the kiln at 1650 degrees. The organic clay binders burn away melting the silver particals together into solid 99.9 % pure FINE SILVER. This shuttle has been initialed and dated by Dave.

Goncalo Alves wood grows in the upland forest of many regions from Mexico and Central America to Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, and Ecuador.

This shuttle is currently up for auction on Ebay.com. If you would like to view this more photos of this item, please click the link below.

Rosewood, Ivory and Bone Tatting Pick

This tatting pick is new but Dave intended to make it look more like an heirloom, something that perhaps a mother may have passed down to her daughter or granddaughter. It is made of Rosewood with a sharp bone pick. 10,000 year old mammoth ivory was used for the carved accent ring on the slip-on point protector. Like most of the ancient ivory, it shows signs of weather cracks, further adding to its antique look, but it is stable and firmly bonded to the wood. The pick is 3 ¼ inches long and with the protector on, it is 4 inches long.

Dave could not really find a good spot to mark this piece with his initials and date, but we will send along a signed “ABOUT THE ARTIST” information card.

This tool is currently up for auction on Ebay.com. If you would like to view this item, please click the link below.

Moby Dick Tatting Shuttle and Harpoon Picot Hook

It’s a whale of a shuttle ! Moby is carved from bone and is 3 ½ inches long. As an added treat, Dave has included a 5 inch bone picot hook that he carved in the shape of a whalers harpoon.

Unfortunately, Dave has a "copycat" on Ebay who is trying to duplicate his work, so a statement of copyright protection was added to this piece. Dave spent many hours planning and executing this Moby Dick shuttle and picot hook, so it would be a shame for this person to profit from Dave's hard work.

Unfinished Tatting Knotting Shuttle

Here's another new handmade fiber art tool for our "Grizzly Mountain Cache" Etsy shop!

Dave made these wood knotting shuttles and left them unfinished so you can decorate them yourself! These large 5"x 1 5/8" knotting shuttles were used in the Victorian era to make strands of knotted rope that would then be sewn onto embroidery pieces. They were such a status symbol that the ladies would carry them around as a fashion accessory!

Space Shuttle Shuttle!

One of Dave's tatting shuttle customers asked him to create a special tatting shuttle to commemorate her daughter's acceptance into the space shuttle program. It turned out so well, and was such an unusual request, that I thought I'd share it with you!

Dave created this one of a kind post tatting shuttle from spalted maple with ancient mammoth ivory inlay. He uses a microscope to do the detailed scrimshaw art.

Celluloid "Glacier Ice" Bobbin Tatting Shuttle

After a short respite from winter, it's back for a while here in central Oregon, so it's only fitting that Dave's next shuttle be named "Glacier Ice". The stunning tatted ice skates were tatted by Margaret Brown. These adorable gems arrived in the mail today! Thank you, Margaret!!

Dave carved this approx 2 1/2 inch "GLACIER ICE" celluloid bobbin tatting shuttle to bring out the beautiful patterns within. No two can come out the same. Change the angle of the light and you get pearly ice with blue threads through the shuttle. The bobbin is a common Singer which can be bought in packs of 4 at WalMart or similar store with sewing supplies. The drag on the bobbin can be adjusted with the brass screw axle to keep it from free wheeling. It has a #14 steel picot hook inset in the nose. It is initialed and dated by Dave, the maker.

Hand Crafted Spalted Maple Tatting Shuttle

This 2 3/8 inch tatting shuttle does not need any extras! No carving, burning, ivory inlay or scrimshaw!! It's a natural beauty! The spalting patterns are actually caused by fungi infection in the wood. As each micro fungi colony grows through the wood it leaves natural ring and line patterns or tracks. This wood has been stabilized under high pressure with resin which goes into ever wood cell making it extremely hard and waterpoof. It is initialed and dated by Dave, the maker.

This tatting shuttle is currently up for auction on Ebay. Please click the link below to view the auction.
